I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!
- NV Sanfeletto Prosecco di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Extra Dry (Veneto): Fun for sure, but this guy’s not really in the mood to mess around, either. $19 B
- 2017 Alois Lageder ‘Forra’ Manzoni Bianco (Dolomites): Funky, full of saline, and fantastic; bring our love of melons. $31 B+
- 2016 Vietti ‘Perbacco’ Langhe Nebbiolo (Piedmont): Floral framing for a pretty picture. $28 B+
- 2018 Quinta do Vallado Reserva Blanco (Douro): Bold where it needs to be, reserved where it should be. $48 A-
- NV Laurent-Perrier ‘Harmony’ Demi-Sec (Champagne): Local honey and fresh flowers; lovely, but you’re probably overpaying for them. $40 B+
- 2013 Left Coast Cellars Blanc de Noir Sparkling (Willamette Valley): Green apples, baked brown bread, and the gorgeous, golden glow of achievement. $55 A-
- 2017 Troon Vineyard ‘Cuvée Pyrénées’ Red (Applegate Valley): Reaching lofty heights of tasty tanginess and structure. $65 A-
- 2017 Merry Edwards Meredith Estate Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley): Black cherries for days; and deep, dark, brooding days at that. $70 A-
- 2018 Opolo Vineyards Albariño (Edna Valley): Good right down to the last enormous, lemony drop. $26 B+
- 2018 M. Chapoutier Domaine Tournon ‘Mathilda’ Rose (Victoria): In the words of AC/DC, that’s a whole lotta rosie! $18 B
