I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!
- 2015 Krutzler Blaufränkisch Reserve (Eisenberg): Long, spicy, juicy, and grippy… so stop staring already and drink it. $39 A-
- 2016 Weingut Weinrieder Schneiderberg Riesling Eiswein (Niederösterreich): Her citrus candy brings all the wine nerds to the yard. $NA A-
- 2017 Hans Tschida – Angerhof Sämling 88 Trockenbeerenauslese (Burgenland): Honey and marmalade fit for kings, and not just for breakfast anymore, apparently. $NA A-
- 2016 Feiler-Artinger Ruster Ausbruch (Burgenland): Spiced tea with a lot – A LOT, but you’ll still want more – of sultana syrup. $NA A-
- NV Gorghi Tondi ‘Palmares’ Grillo Spumante Brut (Sicily): White flowers, white peaches, white sea salt, & a gold star for overachieving. $15 B+
- 2018 Gorghi Tondi ‘Coste a Preola’ Grillo (Sicily): Perfume, pineapples, and plenty of perkiness. $NA B+
- 2018 Gorghi Tondi ‘Kheire’ Grillo (Sicily): ‘Welcome’ indeed; welcome to the island’s version of zesty elegance. $NA A-
- 2015 Gorghi Tondi ‘Grillodoro’ Passito (Sicily): Passito with passion; along with toast, lemon peel, nuts, and luscious freshness. $NA A-
- 2017 Bannister Chardonnay (Alexander Valley): Orchard fruits to spare; we can forgive some of them being just too darned ripe. $32 B+
- 2018 ZD Wines Pinot Noir (Carneros): Earthy, juicy, hearty, and too pricey. $56 B+
