I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!
- 2019 Donnafugata Anthilia (Sicily): Jasmine on grapefruit pith, and overachieving zing on everything. $15 B+
- 2018 Tasca d’Almerita Tenuta Regaleali Grillo Cavallo delle Fate (Sicily): It’s fond of doing a very good Riesling impersonation every so often. $18 B+
- 2016 Rocca delle Macie Sergio Zingarelli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (Chianti Classico): A mere babe for now; a tangy, spicy babe at that. $130 A
- 2018 Pasqua ‘Romeo & Juliet’ Passione e Sentimento Bianco (Veneto): Poised to be as delightful and dependable a brand as its namesake. $15 B+
- 2014 Simonsig Merindol Syrah (Stellenbosch): Almost too sweetly juicy; almost too intensely meaty. Almost! $44 A-
- 2014 Veritas Petit Manseng (Monticello): Tropical fruit, tree nuts, and a penchant for going down very, very easily. $22 B+
- 2016 Summit Lake Sophia Lynn Petite Sirah (Howell Mountain): Lovers of serious heft and power need only apply. $55 A-
- 2017 Cliff Lede Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District): Leaping down the path paved with dense, dark, blackcurrant bricks. $79 A-
- 2017 Mi Sueno Winery Chardonnay (Los Carneros): Big, delicious, & extravagant in all the right places. $47 A-
- 2018 Qupe Syrah (Central Coast): Let’s take a moment to acknowledge & appreciate your fruity, blueberry side, Mr. Syrah! $17 B+
