I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!
- 2012 Tenuta Carretta Cascina Bordino (Barbaresco): The more feminine Nebbiolo that kind of forgot its feminine side. $60 B+
- NV Palmer & Co Rose Reserve Brut (Champagne): Sweetness and vivacity that never quite get into harmonious tune. $65 B+
- 2018 Domaine Blain Soeur & Frere Brouilly (Beaujolais): Fruity, peppery, round, and basically perfect bistro fare. $28 B+
- 2017 Leitz Pinot Noir Rose Brut (Rheingau): Zesty, tart, and tasty; bring on the Hors d’oeuvres! $29 B+
- 2016 Weingut Pfeffingen Ungstein Gewurztraminer Trocken (Pfalz): Roses, lychee, lime, flint, and a f*ck-ton of rich gorgeousness. $32 A-
- 2018 Two Hands Wines Sexy Beast Cabernet Sauvignon (McLaren Vale): Maybe the oaky finish isn’t sexy; but yeah, basically the rest of it is actually dead sexy. $32 B+
- 2016 Henschke Henry’s Seven (Barossa): Violets, leather, smoke, blackberries, black cherries… but then, I guess we should expect that a lot can get packed into something this big and lovely… $45 A-
- 2017 Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon (Colchagua Valley): Label under “F” for “F-ing Fruity.” $10 C+
- 2017 Dutton-Goldfield Rued Vineyard Chardonnay (Russian River Valley): White flowers, a rainbow of tropical fruits, and general awesomeness. $55 A-
- 2016 La Jota Vineyard Merlot (Howell Mountain): Well, folks, this is pretty much how it’s *supposed* to be done… $85 A
